Obituary of Josephine F. Bordonaro

Josephine F. Bordonaro, 94, of Camillus, passed away on February 20, 2015. Born in Syracuse to Angela and Angelo Bordonaro, Josephine graduated from Central High School and then Normal School. She earned a B.S. magna cum laude in 1944 and an M.S. summa cum laude in 1946, both from Syracuse University. After earning her teaching degree, Josephine was one of the earliest recipients of a Fulbright scholarship, enabling her to spend a year abroad as an Exchange teacher in Cambridge, England that would forever influence her life. Josephine taught general science at Roosevelt Junior High School and biology at Onondaga Valley Academy and Corcoran High School, where she also served as Chair of the Science Department. Josephine was a member and past president of the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS), and recipient of a STANYS Fellow Award (1959). Josephine was also a member and past president of the Business & Professional Women's Club (BPW) of Camillus. In her spare time, Josephine enjoyed writing editorials for the local newspapers, painting watercolors, and gardening. She lived on Terrace Way for many years, before moving to Camillus Ridge Terrace. She was a communicant of St Joseph's Church of Camillus. Throughout her life, Josephine inspired a love of learning, especially in her many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Josephine was predeceased by her brother, Samuel Bordonaro and sisters, Lee Maroney and Theresa Bordonaro. Survivors: sister, Carolyn M. Chini of Camillus; brother, Charles J. Bordonaro of Swarthmore, PA; seven nieces; and four nephews. Services: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Church, Camillus where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W Genesee St, Syracuse.
